21 February 2025
We managed to secure a permit for our goods to travel to Broome yesterday and were able to transport a large number of consignments from Port Hedland. Feedback from our Drivers indicate that conditions have now improved and we are confident that linehaul operations in this area will be back to normal on Monday. A backlog and delays of 2-3 days are to be expected next week.
19 February 2025
Note that we are getting through outstanding deliveries in North West WA and will have them completed by the end of this week.
Broome
The De Grey area is still affected by flooding. Although conditions have improved and water levels have receded, the North West Highway between Port Hedland and Broome remains closed. We expect this road to open by Thursday and intend to get our linehaul units to Broome for deliveries on the following day (Friday). We have also decided to postpone consignments travelling tonight to Broome from Perth for early next week due to capacity issues at the receiving depots.
17 February 2025
Please see an update below post Tropical Cyclone Zelia. Services in affected areas are expected to return back to normal this week, with small backlogs for us to get through. Note that access in Broome is currently closed.
Karratha
Linehaul services arrived as scheduled over the weekend and are being unloaded this morning. While we are fully operational today, please note that some freight from Friday’s service, delayed due to the cyclone threat, is still pending delivery. We anticipate a day or two to clear this backlog.
Port Hedland
The service originally due Friday arrived over the weekend and is being processed for delivery. The service scheduled for this morning is en route, delayed due to road closures, and now expected tomorrow. We are working to return to schedule and anticipate full recovery by Thursday.
Broome
Severe flooding in the DeGrey region has closed the highway north of Hedland. As a result, there were no services into Broome today. We are monitoring the situation closely. Based on historical data, we expect the road to remain closed for another 2-3 days. We are targeting Thursday/Friday for resumption of Broome services.
14 February 2025
We are currently experiencing service delays in North West WA, including Port Hedland, Karratha, and Tom Price, due to Tropical Cyclone Zelia. Our Port Hedland and Karratha depots are currently closed and a ‘watch and act’ alert is in place.
The Category 5 cyclone is expected to make landfall between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM AWST, and severe rainfall is expected over the next few days.
AirRoad anticipates delays in these regions and is monitoring the situation to assess the impact on roads and communities. Services from WA to NT will also be affected by these weather conditions.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
13 February 2025
Please be advised that the upcoming Tropical Cyclone Zelia is currently impacting service in North West WA. The cyclone is expected to cross directly over Port Hedland today. Our local on-forwarder has closed their depot as a precautionary measure until the threat has passed. Our team are currently bunkered down at their homes and we hope they remain safe during this time.
While one of our linehaul units despatched earlier this week is anticipated to arrive in Port Hedland on schedule, consignments despatched from our Perth depot from yesterday (Wednesday, 12 February 2025) onwards will experience delays.
The Port Hedland depot is likely to remain closed tomorrow. We are working towards resuming normal operations on Monday, 17 February 2025.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as they become available.
Thank you for your support as always.
